운동과 정신통제

자정이 넘었고 근육통과 뭔가 내과적 염증 같은 것이 잘 느껴지는 막콜을 완수하고 아파트 단지 입구를 나오는데 조깅하러 뛰어나가는 사람을 봤다.

정신통제.

시간과 경제적 여유, 그리고 자기 몸 통제를 이룬 사람들이 집 밖으로 뛰쳐나와 하는 운동은 굉징한 플렉스구나 를 요즘 새삼 느끼고 있었는데 같은 그 시각 운동하러 나가는 그를 보면서 힘을 얻었다.
그래 운동했다고 생각하면 된다. 예전에는 돈 주고 밤새 양재천에서 울트라마라톤 한답시고 100킬로도 뛰고 그랬는데 뭐 이제는 돈을 받아가며 걷고 뛰고 자전거 타며 여러 차들 시승도 해보고 있잖아. 라고.

현대차의 스타리아를 처음으로 시승해 봤다. 상가골목에 주차된 차를 끌어내서 언덕에 자리잡은 아파트 주차장에 넣어 드렸는데 만취 소유자께서 그래도 잠꼬대같이 106동을 말씀해 주셔서 106동과 가까운 빈 공간에 주차해 드리고 깨워서 공동현관까지 밀어넣어 드렸더니 이번 손님도 웃으신다. 깨울때는 뭔가 휘두를 것 같은 눈빛인데 귀가 에스코트를 막상 해드리면 다들 웃어주시네. 참 잘한 결심이다.

현대차의 기술력에 다시 한번 감탄했고 과감하게 디자인한 유리창 설계구조는 과연 유사시 안전한가 여전히 의문이 있다. 시내 저속주행만 하라는 의도가 아니라면 이렇게 1/2 가까이 차체를 유리로 노출 시킬 수 있는가 엄청 과감하다. 안전에 대한 자신감일까. 문득 스타리아의 안전등급이 궁금해졌다.

It was past midnight. After finishing my last call of the night, my body keenly aware of muscle aches and a feeling of internal inflammation, I was leaving the apartment complex when I saw someone running out for a jog.



Mental discipline.



Lately, I've been realizing what a huge "flex" it is for people who have achieved control over their time, finances, and their own bodies to head outside to exercise. Seeing him go out at that very same hour gave me a surge of energy.



"Right," I thought to myself, "I can just consider this my workout. I used to pay money to run 100 kilometers overnight in ultramarathons along Yangjaecheon. Now, I'm getting paid to walk, run, ride a bike, and test drive various cars."



I drove a Hyundai Staria for the first time. I had to pull the car out of a commercial alley and park it in an apartment building's lot up on a hill. The owner, though heavily intoxicated, managed to mumble "Building 106" as if talking in his sleep. I parked in an empty spot near Building 106, woke him up, and helped him to the main entrance. This customer smiled, too. When I wake them, they often look at me like they're about to swing at something, but once I actually escort them home, they all seem to smile. It was a good decision to do this.



I was once again impressed by Hyundai's technology, but I still have my doubts about the bold design of the window structure and whether it would be safe in an emergency. Unless it's intended only for low-speed city driving, exposing nearly half of the car's body with glass is an incredibly bold move. Is it a show of confidence in its safety? Suddenly, I became curious about the Staria's safety rating.
