둘째가 부자 되게 해달라고 빌었다고 하는데...

 

오늘은 그냥 지하철을 타고 집에 갈까 말까 했다. 짐도 많았고, 금요일까지 누적된 피로가 느껴졌기 때문. 그래도 명절 연휴 많이 쉬어서 오늘도 한푼이라도 더 만회 해야지 하는 마음과 끝까지 경합하다가, 막판 개포동 가는 손님을 만났다. 잠실과 강남에 사신 덕분에 52천원에 모셨는데, 나는 티맵에게서 41천원을 정산 받았다. 볼보 대형 SUV 신형 차량이었고, 비가 꽤 내리고 있었다. 시화 아파트형 오피스텔을 이른바 마이너스피를 잡으셨다는 잠실 손께 이러쿵 저러쿵 말씀이 없으신 걸 보면, 꽤나 점잖은 분이거나 서로 많이 친하진 않은 것 같았다.

 

지하철역 개찰까지 했는데, 다시 개포동에서 콜이 잡혔다. 문정동 가는 콜인데, 대형 벤츠 세단이었다. 이중, 삼중으로 주차된 주차장을 빠져 나오며 주차하기 불편하다고 하셨는데, 문정동도 비슷한 사정 아니냐고 거들뻔 했다. 대단한 사람들이다. 이런 주차난 불구, 강남에 살고 있다. 배울 점이 많은 분들이다. 차량도 대형차를 몰고 다니신다. 대단한 분들이다. 

 

마지막 콜은 가락시장에서 잡혔다. 가락몰이라는 곳을 처음 구경했고, 독특한 구조였지만 손님이 계신 곳을 잘 찾아가 기아의 레이를 시승했는데, 짚사의 미니 루비콘 같은 운전의 재미가 있었다. 폭우라고 해도 손색없을 날씨에, 배우자께서 개롱역 근처에서 지인분들과 술자리를 가진 김에 중간 픽업을 요청하셔서 1만원을 추가로 챙겨 주셨다. 사실상 12천원 이상의 소득. 복귀는 역시 따릉이를 타고 했는데, 바지가 거의 흠뻑 다 젖을 정도로 비가 내렸다.

 

폭염도 잘 견뎠는데, 가을 비로 농사가 어려워 진다고 한다. 둘째가 부자 되게 해달라고 빌었다고 하는데... 돈이 없는 것이 아니라 아끼는 것이고, 돈이 인생 목표가 되어서는 안된다고 말해줘야 하는데, 내가 가장 돈에서 자유롭지 못한 신세인 것만 같아 우습다. 

 

Today, I debated whether or not to just take the subway home. I had a lot of things with me, and I could feel the fatigue accumulated through Friday. Still, I rested a lot over the holiday weekend, so the desire to make up even a little more money today battled with my fatigue until the very end. Finally, I got a last-minute call from a customer going to Gaepo-dong. I was paid 52,000 won for the ride, which involved Jamsil and Gangnam, but I was paid out 41,000 won from T-map. It was a new model Volvo large SUV, and it was raining quite a bit. The passenger from Jamsil didn't say much of anything to the other person, who had apparently bought an 'officetel' (apartment-style officetel) in Siwha at a 'negative premium' (buying below the original price). Seeing this, I figured they were either very respectable people or just not very close.

I had already gone through the subway turnstiles, but then I got another call from Gaepo-dong. It was a ride to Munjeong-dong in a large Mercedes sedan. As we were navigating out of a parking lot with cars double- and triple-parked, the customer complained about how inconvenient the parking was. I almost chimed in to ask if the situation in Munjeong-dong wasn't just as bad. These people are incredible. Despite such parking difficulties, they live in Gangnam. They are people with a lot to learn from. And they drive large cars, too. Truly incredible people.

My last call was from Garak Market. It was my first time seeing the inside of Garak Mall. It had a unique layout, but I managed to find the customer and got to drive a Kia Ray, which was fun to drive, almost like a mini Jeep Rubicon. In weather that could easily be called a downpour, the customer's spouse was drinking with acquaintances near Gaerong Station, so they requested a mid-way pickup and gave me an extra 10,000 won. That's essentially an income of 12,000 won or more. As usual, I rode a Ttareungi bike to get home, and it was raining so hard that my pants got almost completely soaked.

We endured the sweltering heat, and now they say the autumn rains are making farming difficult. My second child told me they prayed to become rich... I should tell them that it's not about having no money but about saving, and that money shouldn't be the goal in life. But it's comical because I feel like I'm the one who is the least free from money.
