노동과 재미

식당 설겆이 알바 여운이 많이 남는다.
마라톤 풀코스 완주 가능했던 만큼의 시간을 일했는데, 물 한잔 마실시간이 없었고. 난장판 같았던 주방에서 일하시던 식당 사장님은 과연 행복하실까 하는 건방진 의심을 가지기도 했다. 붐비는 식당이 얼마나 주방적으로도 별로인가도 다시 한번 확인할 수 있었고, 돈에 관해서 하나의 벤치마크 역할을 해주기도 했다. 그 고생을 해서야 벌 수 있는 돈 42천원 이라는 기준점.

다시 종로로 돌아와 등촌동이라는 낯선곳에 차만 가져다 놓는데 무려 28천원을 준다는 콜을 잡아 현대차의 제네시스를 시승했다. 빗길 주행에도 불편함이 없는 명차다.

등촌역까지는 따릉이를 탔다. 콜이 없어 지하철을 탔는데 둔촌동 가는 콜이 잡혔다. 티맵앱 기준 15분, 네이버지도상으로는 17분 걸리는 이대목동병원.
BMW최신 모델을 타고 손님과 함께 강동구 복귀. 오래된 아파트에 주차해 드렸는데 차문 밖으로 발을 빼기도 버거운 좁은 곳. 이미 많이 가진 분들도 이렇게 일상마저 치열하게 살고 계신다.

집까지는 따릉이를 타고 왔는데 꽤 많은 비가 내려 바지가 다 젖었다. 그리고 무사히 야식 없이 다행히 잘 씻고 잠들었다. 뭔가 통증이 느껴졌지만 내과적 통증은 아닌 것 같아 큰 걱정은 안한다. 무사해서 감사한 하루.

For a combat sports athlete, how futile must marathon running, cycling, and swimming feel? It was a realization that these types of long-duration endurance exercises are probably only appealing to people who normally feel a sense of physical boredom in their lives.

If Kim Dong-hyun had washed dishes for the same amount of time, under the same working conditions and intensity that I experienced, which would he say was harder? There is some fun in washing dishes—the satisfaction of organizing things one by one. However, he would never wash dishes for money, because that enjoyment, when you consider the compensation, intensity, sustainability, and environment, doesn't even come close to surpassing the fun of the "Ironman game" that people actually pay to participate in.

Yesterday, I started with a quick delivery. It was a call in Yongsan, so I accepted it gladly, but the destination was Haebangchon. The incline, said to be 3%, was so steep it was hard to believe. It was raining, which made it even tougher, and if you only think about the money, it was clearly a crazy thing to do. But it was fun. After all, I got to tour the charms of Haebangchon, a real-life "scenery of a bicycle ride."

Then, I made the mistake of watching a parliamentary audit video. I couldn't stop watching out of sheer dismay, which made my first designated driving call of the night late. I drove a Tesla to Cheonnong-dong. After having watched 'The Billion Dollar Code,' the Tesla's surrounding-area visualization screen felt insincere. The CTO of Terravision in the show would never have simply overlooked a flaw where vehicle renderings flicker, break up, disappear, and then reappear. I also figured out how to work the wipers. It's on the touchscreen; I could feel Tesla's determination to leave nothing on the stalks around the steering wheel. The seating comfort was still good. For the first time, however, I had a complaint about the EV drive setting, which maximizes regenerative power and has the side effect of reducing brake pad wear. In Comfort mode, if not in Eco mode, it should be set up to mimic the feel of an internal combustion engine. It's unlikely they were incapable of this. Conversely, it sparked an idea as I left the parking garage: wouldn't Hyundai and Kia's EVs get a longer range if their mileage were measured using a Tesla-style driving mode?
I returned to Jongno and got a call that paid a whopping 28,000 won just to drop a car off in an unfamiliar place called Deungchon-dong. I drove a Hyundai Genesis. It’s a fine car, comfortable to drive even on rainy roads.

I rode a Ttareungi bike to Deungchon Station. There were no calls, so I got on the subway, but then a call to Dunchon-dong came in. The pickup was at Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital, a 15-minute trip according to T-map and 17 minutes on Naver Maps.

I returned to Gangdong-gu with the customer in a late-model BMW. I parked for them at an old apartment building, in a spot so tight it was difficult to even get your foot out the door. Even people who already have so much are living their daily lives this intensely.

I rode a Ttareungi bike the rest of the way home. It was raining quite heavily, and my pants got soaked. And thankfully, I made it home safely, washed up, and fell asleep without any late-night snacks. I felt some pain, but it didn't seem like an internal medical issue, so I'm not too worried. A day to be grateful for being safe.
